As a second shooter, you don’t always get the spotlight, but that’s exactly what makes the job so exciting. You’re able to focus on the smaller details—the fleeting moments that tell a larger story. Recently, I had the privilege of second shooting at a wedding that felt like a fairy tale. The couple’s whimsical vision came to life in such a stunning way, and the bride—oh, the bride—was nothing short of breathtaking.

The wedding took place in a charming venue nestled in the heart of North Carolina, surrounded by rolling hills and lush gardens at Sunnyside Baldwin Farms. The venue itself had a whimsical vibe, with twinkling fairy lights hanging from tree branches, delicate florals everywhere, and vintage elements scattered throughout the space. It was a dream location, setting the perfect stage for a bride who radiated pure magic.

From the moment I arrived, I could sense the excitement in the air, and my role as a second shooter was to capture all of the intimate, behind-the-scenes moments that would complement the lead photographer’s focus on the larger scenes. The bride, in particular, was an absolute vision, and it was an honor to photograph her in such a stunning and emotional setting.

What made this wedding so memorable was not just the stunning details, but the way the bride carried herself with elegance and joy. As a second shooter, my main responsibility was to capture candid, behind-the-scenes moments. But when you’re working with a bride as radiant as this one, every moment feels like an opportunity to capture a piece of her soul.

The couple opted for a private first look before the ceremony and vow reading and I had the perfect spot to document the emotion of that moment from a distance. The groom stood waiting in a beautiful garden area, sunlight filtering through the leaves. When the groom turned to see her for the first time, it was pure magic. My camera clicked rapidly, capturing the tears of joy in both of their eyes as they embraced. As a second shooter, I had the freedom to focus on these intimate moments, knowing that the lead photographer was capturing the larger moments and details.

When working as a second shooter, I love capturing the details—small things that might go unnoticed but contribute so much to the atmosphere of the day. The bride’s dress was a delicate masterpiece, with intricate lace and a long, flowing train. As she walked to the ceremony, I took a few steps back to photograph the full beauty of the dress in the natural light. Her bouquet, composed of wildflowers and soft pastel tones, fit perfectly with the whimsical theme, and the soft breeze added a dreamy element to each shot.

As a second shooter, I’m often tasked with capturing candid moments while the lead photographer focuses on more posed shots. I had the chance to catch the bride laughing with her bridesmaids, sharing a quiet moment alone in a garden, and even adjusting her veil before walking down the aisle. These candid shots are always the most genuine and magical, and they truly show the bride's personality.

The ceremony was just as whimsical as the rest of the day. The bride walked down a pumpkin lined aisle, surrounded by her closest friends and family. The sunlight streamed through the trees, casting a soft golden glow over the entire scene. As a second shooter, I had the opportunity to focus on the wide shots, capturing the full beauty of the ceremony while the lead photographer worked on the closer, more intimate moments.

One moment that really stood out was when the bride and groom exchanged vows under an arch of twinkling lights and greenery. It felt like something out of a dream, and as I clicked away, I made sure to stay in tune with the emotions of the moment. Every shot, from the tear-filled eyes of the bride to the joyful smiles of the couple, was a perfect representation of their love and the whimsical atmosphere.

Being a second shooter allows you to be part of something incredibly special without the pressure of being the lead. I get to capture moments that add depth to the story the primary photographer is telling. For this whimsical wedding, it was all about the details—the beauty of the bride, the emotions shared, and the magical environment that surrounded them. Each photo I took contributed to a larger narrative of love, joy, and whimsy, and I’m grateful to have been a part of that.

As a second shooter, it’s not often you get the chance to witness such a perfect wedding day. This bride was an absolute vision, and the entire day felt like stepping into a fairytale. From the intimate moments to the grand ceremony, I was able to capture the small, beautiful details that complemented the lead photographer’s work. Every shot felt like a piece of a dream, and I’m thrilled to have had the opportunity to share this story.
